This one-of-a-kind handmade Neriage teapot combines the beauty of sculptural pottery with the pleasure of a freshly brewed cup of tea. Rich layers of red, blue, yellow, orange, and black clay create intricate, flowing patterns that resemble colorful mosaics.

What makes this teapot especially unique is that the designs aren't painted on—they're revealed from within the clay itself.

The Art of Neriage

I begin by laminating together layers of individually colored clay, then throwing the layered clay on my pottery wheel. As the clay moves and stretches, beautiful patterns begin to develop.

After trimming and assembling the teapot, I carefully carve through the surface to expose the colorful layers hidden beneath. This process reveals intricate organic patterns that are impossible to duplicate.

Following the bisque firing, I glaze the interior and gracefully curved handle with a warm yellow, food-safe glaze. The teapot is then fired to cone 6, making it suitable for everyday tea service.

The final step is hand-sanding the exterior with fine diamond sanding pads, creating a wonderfully smooth finish that feels as beautiful as it looks.
